Duties


A second referee is appointed to operate on the opposite side of the playing court to the referee. He is permitted to use a whistle.


The second referee assists the referee to control the game in accordance with the Laws of the Game.

 

The Second Referee also:

.
· has discretionary powers to stop the game for any infringement of the Laws
   
· ensures that substitutions are carried out properly
   
   

In the event of undue interference or improper conduct, the referee will relieve the second referee of his duties, arrange for his replacement and make a report to the appropriate authorities.

 

Decisions

  For international games the use of a second referee is compulsory.
